Valentine's Day 2.0

Valentine's Day is creeping up on us faster than a Charlie Sheen relapse, jewelry hounds, and the holiday of love has me thinking:

Why is it that only couples get to celebrate Valentine's Day? And more importantly? Why is it that only women who are in a RELATIONSHIP get the jewelry spoils from this bling-filled occasion?

 

It's high time single ladies get in on the Valentine's Day action too. Starting now.

Besties like Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox, for example, should get each other diamond heart pendants this year - or Eva Longoria should splurge on a diamond right hand ring to celebrate the fact that she no longer has to put up with basketball highlights and boring conversation!

Angelina Jolie's Stud Earrings: Boring or Blingtastic?

When Angelina Jolie wore those stunning emerald earrings to the Oscars in 2009, I forgave every boring, black, Elvira-esque red carpet snorefest she made me endure from my glamorous spot on the sartorial sofa.

But the emerald glow has faded and, well, I just can't take it anymore.

If A-listers like Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston are going to "black pants suit" and "gold hoop" their way through their red carpet careers, I thought at least Angelina - that Brad Pitt-stealing, action-adventure-starring, minx of a movie star - would bring us the lower-jaw-drop moments we so desperately crave.

Here she is in Los Angeles earlier this month for the Salt premiere. Black dress, diamond studs. Wake me when it's over.


Paris this week: Different dress shade, same diamond drudgery.


And in Berlin she didn't even bother!

Maybe she's making a statement that the woman who has everything shouldn't bask in the glory of a diamond tiara every time she makes a public appearance. But I'd settle for a chandelier earring from time to time - maybe a cuff?

Is anyone else as bored as I am? Or do I need to spend time worrying about more important matters. Like the Vogue September issue?

Jennifer Aniston & Courtney Cox: BFFs in Boring Black

The little black dress. It's timeless. It's elegant. But it's the equivalent of a 'forfeit' on the red carpet if you're an A-lister like Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox.

What's the rub? Once you've got syndication royalties rolling in you can throw in the fashion towel?

Aniston, in particular, wears basic, boring, black to nearly every movie premiere (perhaps she's in mourning for a good script) - and don't get me started on her (dare I say its name) 'pants suit' to the star-studded 'I'm Just Not That Into You' red carpet.

Every once in a while? Fine. But to every. single. friggin. event? Enough already!

But I digress. The leading ladies did look lovely at the recent Women In Film celebration in Century City this week (maybe it was a black and white dress code, who am I to judge?).

Loving the big hoop looks on these 'Friends', despite the basic black.

And Zoe Saldana continues to hit it out of the park in a (white!) MaxMara gown with black and white diamond drops:
