New Disco Hyphy Remix: Do The On One

Here's one I've been holding for a minute, as usual I added a few chords with the Juno 106 for added effect.

Break/Edit - I Wash My Hands of the Whole...

Here's a breakbeat tool I made for fun while ripping some old records in the to-go box...always loved this Black Sheep- sampled New Birth beat but it's pretty quiet on lp and kind of falls apart. I extended it out, ran some low pass for more bass, added a few fills, etc.

Edit: I just uploaded a newer version - the one I put up last night had a few things I didn't like about it so I made a few minor changes.

80s Indie Funk Edit: LABRYS

Labrys was a quirky two woman lesbian outfit out of Tolland, CT circa mid 1980s. Elena Jordan on the synths, vocals and programming, Patricia Lyons playing bass and backup vocals. I made an edit of the funked out title track, re-arranging and adding some chords and sweeps with the Juno 106.

45 Release Party Tonight in Oakland

Hey all! I have my first record coming out on Bastard Boots this month, we are throwing a release party to celebrate tonight at the Layover. We'll be debuting the new 45, & Platurn and myself are playing nothing but little records all night!

Grapevine - Sock It To Me

This one is somewhat "rustic", part of the reason being that my copy of the Deacons joint is pretty well/over loved. I tried to use the EQ to get the mix just right, but in general I consider it a pretty lo-fi draft and should be for ipod use only :) The Deacons track used here is essentially an instrumental version of the Syl Johnson recording "Come On Sock It To Me", as recorded on Twilight.

New Mix! Playin' Kinda Ruff

I've had it in my mind to do this project for a long time, but it just kept getting pushed back...of course I picked an opportune time amongst the hectic holidays to put the deadline on myself - doh! Regardless, I'm really excited and proud to present this new mix, as Roger and Zapp have always inspired so many with their unique and pioneering brand of futuristic funk. You will hear most of the staples as well as plenty of lesser known rap choruses and interludes, and your usual assortment of blends and cuts that were probably over-scrutinized in the process of creation. Rest in peace Roger & Larry, & much respect to the entire Troutman family.

Let The Groove Move You

Super raw Crescent City funk produced by Wardell Quezergue aka "Big Q". Gus "The Groove" Lewis was a 60s Nola radio DJ and owned the Libra label, which released Inell Young's incredible 45 "What Do You See In Her".

Let It Whip: U-Tern Redux

I didn't plan on making another mix of this song but the idea just sort of materialized while getting ready for a recent gig. This time it's over a heavy uptempo instrumental from the good fellow U-Tern up in Vancouver, from his official remix to Britney's "If U Seek Amy". Check out his website here for more excellent productions and mixes. Buy his records.

Sunday Soul: Take Me As I Am

Here's a nice 70's uptempo girl group jam out of San Francisco, Ca. The tune was written and arranged by Lafayette "Papa" Thomas, who is also responsible for the wonderful "Cry For Joy" ballad as recorded by Papa And The Utopians on Poizon. I'll get to posting that sometime soon. Too bad these records were pressed on styrene as the highs tend to get a bit fuzzy at times, but it's difficult to deny the raw rhythm & sweet harmonies on these recordings.
