Tomorrow I will be DJing at 111 Minna for a really cool art show opening featuring West Coast graffiti legends RISK & COOZ. From what I've seen so far there will be some really amazing works, and there is no cover to get in. I'll be rocking tunes after 7PM. Hope to see you there!

Regardless, I'm really excited and proud to present this new mix, as Roger and Zapp have always inspired so many with their unique and pioneering brand of futuristic funk. You will hear most of the staples as well as plenty of lesser known rap choruses and interludes, and your usual assortment of blends and cuts that were probably over-scrutinized in the process of creation. West Coast Soul: Gee, It's Nice

Here's a really rare & sweet soul jam that I used to think was a Bay Area record given the label name, but found out later that it was apparently cut in L.A. I know that the group Chain Reaction (who worked with local producer Willie Hoskins) did an equally obscure version of the Rick Baked penned tune, which I'd really love to hear. Please let me know if you have any additional information or a recording of that version.

Rich Cason's Robot

Here's a great b-side vocoder dub produced by Rich Cason, who is responsible for some of the most incredible west coast electro/funk productions ever. (see Killer Groove, Street Freaks, that Capt. Rapp joint on Kimberly, etc.) That of course being just the tip of the iceberg, Cason also played with Dyke and the Blazers in their heyday, wrote and arranged material by Leon Haywood & Formula V, not to mention a gang of other songwriting and arranging accomplishments throughout the years. I don't know anything about Tony Davis and whether or not that's actually R.C. singing but the dub definitely trumps the vocal version.
