Asher Levine | Fall Winter 2012

ASHER LEVINE transformed the Jefferson Market Library and drew audiences into his world for his Fall/Winter 2012 collection presentation. The collection continues to build on established motifs and iconography, developing a language for which to communicate the world he envisions. Makerbot’s newest 3D Printer, The Replicator, live-printed the sunglasses the models were wearing.

Asher's Designs and Creativity With every Season combines pure fantasy with the raw edginess of New York’s streets. It is rare to find a designer who cannot only create beautiful clothing but is also a true showman, where the runways become about far more than the clothing presented. Every Show Asher Levine creates speaks a different story about fashion,His Presentation was so unique and full of inovation !! We really Loved his use of live-printed sunglasses by Makerbot’s 3D Printer. He is a true visionary.

New York Fashion Week | Cut25 By Yigal Azrouel

Yigal Azrouel First presentation for his contemporary Cut25 line we had already fallen in love with his Main Line , the easy silhouettes and poppy colors of the Spring collection.

Inspired by  the early 80s, surfers,Mary Tyler Moore and artist Man-Ray's solarization techniques ,Cut25 Featured oversized visors, Cut25 x Frye shoes, custom jewelry from Holst + Lee , and Thierry Lasry custom eyewear, bright colorblocking, classic silhouettes in fun colors, textures of over-dyed lace and double faced cotton, and a few allover prints.
Azrouël revealed that the decision to have a presentation this season stemmed from his desire for people to see the line presented in this context, to "really understand the point of what it's about."

New York Fashion Week | Zac Posen SS 2012

“Paris gave me perspective on who I could be as a designer here in America,” said Zac Posen, who brought his show to Lincoln Center after two seasons on the Paris schedule. “You know, instead of searching, just coming back to myself. That’s what it taught me.”

Posen deserves credit for going to Paris in the first place, putting himself and his work in a foreign and highly competitive environment, more than 3,000 miles from his Tribeca studio. He dreamt big and though it didn’t work out as he had hoped, if it gave him the confidence and encouragement to trust his talents and not try so hard to force a sharp, over-the-top opulence even when it feels out of step with the bigger fashion message, then it was worth the trip.

His spring collection was still extremely glamorous, mind you, but it felt stronger, more coherent for its relative simplicity. A blue-and-lavender short-sleeve dress with a fluttering skirt was beautifully restrained, as was a diaphanous off-the-shoulder ice-blue cocktail frock—both free of the kind of outrageous add-ons or unnecessary flourishes Posen can sometimes fall prey to.

The collection was absent of the more casual daywear Posen played with in seasons past, which let him focus on evening. A glittering midnight-blue look with a crisscross bodice and ball skirt was refreshingly reminiscent of Posen’s talent for flattering the female form; a celadon version with a short skirt laser-cut like a flip book of chiffon was less figure-friendly.

From another designer, the continuous parade of cascading tulle trains and Dovima-esque shapes would have felt one-note. But it was a good move for Posen. Sometimes in order to move forward you have to go back to the beginning.
