Liturgical, precious and mystical the ‘catéchiste’ woman of Alessandra Rich is waiting for the next Autumn-Winter on the steps of an altar, wrapped in her long dress to the ankle, taped as a doric column. Candid among brocade and decorated rosettes and scented by lace and incense, she is ready to complete her daily ritual of beauty and femininity.
Clerical in inspiration and architectural in structure, the new collection is as surprising as it is unpredictable, transforming style with mannerism. There is an amusing and intelligent sensuality to the collection with straight splits on the legs, collars that castigate the neck line and layers of lace that allow a tantalising glimpse of skin through an open fretwork without exposing the body. Basic and classic, the armour on which the collection is formed has the rigour of a uniform and the extravagance of a picnic on the rocks for a natural sophistication that is never constricted.
Precious but not affected are the fabrics of the collection; cotton poplin, Chantilly lace, Cluny lace, shantoung, silk taffeta and crepe de chine - all drawing rigorous shapes, with silhouettes that are narrow on the shoulders, soft on the hips and with unusual details such as the tights embroidered with pearls and apron pockets on the hips.
The colours are luminous and liturgical: chalk white, beige, pale blue, red, black and the gold of the brocades. Masculine in the cuts but seductive in the intentions, the ‘catéchiste’ collection is as intimate and solemn as a prayer to be whispered.
